The African Cultural Foundation is a non-profit organization promoting cross-cultural literacy, communication, appreciation and understanding between people of post-colonial African culture and the non-African public. The African Cultural Foundation produces the Maine African Film Festival on an annual basis and plans to produce additional African-related events in the future.

In our increasingly diverse society, the African Cultural Foundation is committed to:

  • Providing a platform for knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the richness, complexity and diversity of African peoples and their cultures.
  • Promoting cultural literacy and cross-cultural communication and common purpose, by teaching appreciation for cultural diversity with a primary goal to bridge the divide between, post-colonial African culture and the non-African public and institutions.
  • Promoting historical analysis and research relevant to the modern African experience in Maine and beyond.
  • Based on information and understanding, build stronger communities in Maine and beyond, rooted in common human values and employing educational tools
